Background + Resume

osr

Richmond. Real Estate. One South.

I am somewhat of a dying breed in RVA in that I was actually born AND raised here.

During my days in the 804, I have arguably lived in every area of the Metro (Bon Air/Chesterfield, Henrico, City of Richmond, Hanover and even Caroline County) which I feel gives me a unique perspective into the differences between all of the areas that comprise RVA. I had a friend tell me I found my calling in Real Estate as I knew Richmond like the back of my hand and I loved to talk.

I guess he was right.

Education

I graduated from Monacan High School in the middle 1980’s and took off for Easton, PA to play baseball at Lafayette College. A combination of weather (it is extremely cold in March in PA) and a feeling I should be closer to home (as I wanted to be here and where my father could watch me play) drove me back to University of Richmond where I graduated in 1991 with a degree in Business (classes concentrating mostly in Marketing and Economics) from the E Claiborne Robins School of Business.

A (very) brief attempt at professional baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers farm club in Peoria, Arizona ended in the summer of 1991 when Wayne Krenchicki gave me the same speech as Crash Davis (Kevin Costner in Bull Durham) got when he was released by the Durham Bulls (I thought it was heartfelt, for what it is worth) and I flew home. I would like to think that he felt he was not crushing a childhood dream of glory as much as he was launching a career in sales, but I digress.

Real Estate Education

When I decided to pursue real estate as a vocation, I figured that a bit more formal training was in order so I get myself into the MBA Program at VCU to study in the Real Estate and Urban Land Development program led by the well known appraiser Dr. James Boykin. I never finished the entire MBA program — life and work got in the way — but I managed to complete the real estate courses during my time there.

I can safely say that the principles of valuation that I learned under Dr. Boykin are the skills I use more often in my daily life than any other and I am grateful for the time I spent learning from him.

In 2008, we figured it was time to make a bigger play into the market and opened One South Realty and have been striving to create the brokerage that Richmond deserves to have.
